Hawaiian Luaus today

No Hawaii vacation is complete without attending a Hawaiian Luau!

What is a Luau you ask? A Luau is a Hawaiian Feast celebrating something special, here in Hawaii we have Hawaiian Luaus for Baby’s 1rst Birthday and for Weddings. We also have Luaus to help share the Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures & hospitality with our Island visitors. Hawaiian Luaus

Most Hawaiian Luaus are beachfront and at Sunset time, generally lasting about 3-4 hours.

The majority of  Hawaiian Luaus here on Maui, offer “all you can eat” Hawaiian dinner buffets, with free drinks, beer, wine, and tropical cocktails, including Maitais and Blue Hawaii’s!

Going to a Luau party is the best way to see an authentic Hula show here in Hawaii, not to mention several offers cultural demonstrations before dinner. The Hawaiian and Polynesian Hula show usually lasts about an hour: Hawaiian Hula dancers, male and female, tell the stories of ancient Hawaii and Polynesia through song and dance.  No Luau would be complete without a Samoan Fire Knife Dancer! *except at Old Lahaina’s ‘traditional Hawaiian style luau.

Luaus check-in between 4:00 P.M.-6:30 P.M.; ending between 8-9:30 P.M. depending on the Hawaiian Luau you choose.

‘ The First hour’ is a “cocktail hour’ with live Hawaiian music & entertainment.

The Imu Ceremony where they uncover the Pig that has been cooking in the underground Oven. My other favorite ancient cultural demonstration is the Coconut Husking. The Coconut husking takes a good 10 minutes as there are 4 parts to the Coconut and the “handsome Samoan Warrior” will not only open the Coconut, he will shred the Coconut for taste testing as well as ….make coconut milk!

The second hour is your amazing dinner.

They are all good! Help your self, as it is all you can eat ! Some favorites are the Kalua Pig, fresh Mahi Mahi (Dorado fish), Teriyaki Chicken, Hawaiian sweet potatoes, lomi lomi salmon, and what’s a Luaus without the Poi*hint dip your kalua pig into the poi.

The third Hour is the Hula Show! Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. While Hawaiian Hula shows differ depending on which Luau you choose, all are enjoyable, most will have a fire knife dance finale!
